Reborn in Shadows, From the Ashes
I absolutely loved this book and can't wait for the next ( I pre ordered it btw😉) I do have to admit the author is a good friend and I had no idea she was carrying around this great ability. The story was engaging, and hard to put down. I loved the description of the town and characters ❤️

Miriam Ryder’s story in Reborn in Shadows is bold and beautifully written, offering rare and meaningful representation. The portrayal of a protagonist we seldom see in fiction—a sharp-witted transgender woman and recent amputee navigating trauma, identity, and new beginnings—is deeply human and authentic.
Miriam is fierce, flawed, and real. The writing balances grit and tenderness, capturing both the dangers she faces in Jasper Hill and the quiet moments of hope.
This book doesn’t shy away from small-town bigotry or danger, but it also gives us love, second chances, and the strength it takes to reclaim your identity. A must-read for fans of inclusive, character-driven stories.

I love the main character!!
Reborn in Shadows: From the Ashes was a book about resilience, love and strength. I laughed and cried and fell in love with the main character Miriam, a transgender amputee with an unapologetic chainsmoking habit.
Miriam finds herself in the witness protection program due to an incident with a powerful crime family and has to restart her life over post transition in a small town. She finds love and friends while having to fight off some bigotry with her strong will to stand up for her identity and those like her.
The only reason I really give 4 stars is because there were a few small moments that I felt the over detailed explanations weren't necessary or some part of the plot was being dragged out just a bit longer than needed. But that could be my personal opinion. Overall this story was one my heart will remember. I see Miriam as a hero her strength and dedication to her identity is empowering. She is so well spoken and I only hope that others in the LGBTQ community get a chance to read this story and feel empowered by Miriam's resilience.
The world needs more authors like this.
You can hardly tell this is a debut from a new author. Especially these days there needs to be more LGBTQIA+ voices telling their own stories! And Rural LGBT fiction is few and far between. The author does a wonderful job making each character feel like a person, and the dialogue really flows!
Maya is a talented, sensitive writer with a fierce determination. A true phoenix.
