Description

Seven years ago, a single, stolen moment in a moonlit locker room shattered everything for Sawyer. Jack Larson—the untouchable hockey prodigy—unlocked a truth Sawyer wasn't ready to face, leading to a panicked retreat and years of silence. But the ice is a small world, and when they are both drafted to the Oakland Raptors, their past collides head-on with their professional future. Management, oblivious to the history between them, makes the ultimate power move: they force the two rivals to room together. What follows is a high-stakes game of forced proximity where the tension is thick enough to snap a stick. Surrounded by hotel walls and lingering glances, the defenses Sawyer spent years building begin to crumble. He is forced to confront the reality he denied for nearly a decade: his obsession with Jack was never just about the game. Yet, Jack is hiding a fractured interior, and his secrets threaten to derail their careers and their fragile second chance. As the line between teammate and lover blurs, Sawyer must decide if the risk of heartbreak is worth finally stepping into the light. Puck Lust is a sizzling, emotional journey through the locker room, proving that the most dangerous plays aren't made on the rink—they’re made in the heart.

Not the usual fluff!

Logan and Carter have a history from their Jr. Hockey League days. Both were hurt, for entirely different reasons. Both felt rejected. Jack fled and became the highest paid NHL player for the Raptors. Now, years later, Carter is a fellow teammate and Jack can’t handle it. Their rivalry becomes legendary until Coach makes them room together on Away Games to work it out. Their attraction is rekindled. Until Carter can’t commit because he doesn’t see himself as anything but straight. When Jack is injured and hospitalised, Carter confesses his love for Jack. Jack rejects Carter because he believes Carter only says that because of a video of the two of them that becomes viral. What ensues is Carter showing up at Jack’s condo, bearing gifts and food to take care of him while he’s recuperating. This happens until Jack relents and they finally have their HEA. There are dark themes and plot twists in this book. I didn’t include any in this review because I didn’t want to share any spoilers. It’s a really great read.

complicated

It is complicated to be a professional athlete who happens to have romantic feelings for another professional athlete. In this story Jack and Carter have history. Their moment came and passed. Now they have been traded to the same team and there is a second chance for them to see where their relationship can go. A romance between hockey players will be complicated. And there are secrets beyond their desire to be with one another to be revealed. This story of guys who want to play and happen to want one another was well written and thoughtful. Very Angsty Book. Read the trigger warnings and stay safe.

I finished "Puck Lusty" by Brooklyn Cate last night after gobbling it down in a single 6 hour sitting. It's not my favorite book of the year so far, but I definitely enjoyed it! It fills that angsty m/m hockey romance niche that I know many of my friends are starving for. I'm not a personal fan of angst. I really need an equal amount of fluff to balance it out and this book is lacking in the fluff department. That's not a bad thing! It's a ME thing. With that said, the plot kept me riveted and I was flipping through this, eager to get more and more of the little bits of background story that Brooklyn Cate teased us with. The spice was well written and fit well into the angsty plot line. The scenes didn't feel like a forced addition, they felt vital to the story and I absolutely love when that happens. Overall, I'd give it 3 hearts. A book I absolutely enjoyed, but not one I'd want to read again (cause my heart can only take so much, OKAY) Spice and Plot were both a 3 for me. The plot felt a little dragged out and repetitive, which is really the only thing that keeps it from 5 stars. The spice is also good and well written, but it's not...SPECIAL. I wish I could explain it better, but that's what I've got.

Hockey, second chance romance

Jack has had a rough life. He's never been able to depend on anyone but himself. He let his guard down once and it ended up hurting him badly. Carter really struggles with believing he's worthy of anyone's attention or love. They almost had a moment together a few years back but it wasn't the right time. Now they're both older and have grown. It was really beautiful to see them work their way towards love and a healthy relationship.
