First things first… Dark tale Book 1 of 3
I have read some of the low rating reviews and want to address a couple of those complaints. First is plot holes. Yes, there are some big enough to drive a truck through, there’s a spoilery reason for that. The world building is sketchy and there’s a reason for that as well. I will say that we are given clues that foreshadow information that will be important as the trilogy progresses (at least I presume so). There is enough world building to give a basic overview of what type of multiverse the story is taking place in and the basic dynamic of the society. We are introduced to the main players and given glimpses into who they are. I presume those backstories will be fleshed out later in the trilogy. Of the three guys, two are in an established relationship. There is a graphic m/m scene and mentions of m/m activities that happen off page, so beware if you don’t like that. It’s lite on the m/f scenes, but there is a reason for that and it’s book 1… It’s nice to have some build up to sexual relationships. Especially when there is past trauma (and there is).
For those who didn’t read the blurb or series name carefully… This is a CRUEL shifterverse. That means that we have alphaholes that treat our girl abysmally. They are a society at war, so any perceived weakness is going to be exploited. If you’re looking for warm and fluffy, this isn’t the story for you. It’s dark, violent, and compelling. If you have triggers, this probably isn’t the story for you.
If you’re looking for a…

After 20 years living as a null in the Shifter Realm, Sadie’s entire life turns upside-down when she learns there’s more to her than she ever expected. Thrown into a shifter training fortress, Sadie soon finds herself stuck with 3 gigantic - not very welcoming - alphas for roommates who are immediately suspicious of her while constantly underestimating her.
I originally read the Cruel Shifterverse series in 2023, and was incredibly excited to hear the first three books were picked up by a publisher. I enjoyed it back then, and I enjoyed it again today, possibly more so because I experienced it as an audiobook this time around.
The voice actors for the audiobook were amazing. They did such a wonderful job embodying the characters and really made their personalities shine through.
Jasmine Mas knows how to write an entertaining story. I live for her snarky, sarcastic FMCs and broody, grumpy MMCs.
Sadie was an entertaining, hilarious main character. I loved her sassiness and the banter that ensued between her and the other Alphas. It was fun to watch how she came out of her shell a bit and grew from the girl she used to be as the book went on. I’ll also always love her friendship with Aran. She needed a bestie like Aran to help navigate and survive the next chapter in her life and the…

This book has been sitting on my TBR for ages, and diving in? No regrets. I was hooked from the very first line.
For this one, I decided to do an immersive read 🥰
The audio production was phenomenal. Mollie Stark is Sadie—every line delivered with just the right punch, attitude, and timing. Harlequin Audio absolutely nailed it with a clean, immersive experience.
Now let’s talk about Sadie. She’s sarcastic, razor-sharp, and absolutely hilarious. I couldn’t get enough of her. She’s the kind of heroine who makes you laugh out loud one moment and gives you chills the next with her determination and grit.
The plot builds slowly but purposefully, teasing out secrets and tension until everything explodes in a cliffhanger that had me staring into space in shock. And yes, I was still smiling like a maniac.
If you’re into fantasy packed with spice, strong-willed heroines, and laugh-out-loud moments tucked between the heat and chaos—this one belongs at the top of your list. Already reaching for book two!

Is this a literary masterpiece? No. Is it a fun time and a wild ride? Yes.
I have read the indie version of this book and on this re-read I was just as entertained as I was the first time. Sadie is a (slightly) crazy FMC with a constant stream of outrageous consciousness in her first person POV. Jasmine definitely has a type of FMC she likes to write because Sadie is very similar to Alexis from Blood of Hercules. I do feel like Sadie is a little less unhinged than Alexis is though. It definitely takes some getting used to these wild FMCs, but I think it's worth it.
I think a lot of people will enjoy it because of it's fast paced nature. But this book does contain a lot of heavy themes, so please be sure to check the trigger warnings on the author's website.

This series is my new obsession. This first book is great and somehow this author tops it. I loved these books!! So witty, great characters, amazing world, turns I didn't see coming.
If you like a ton of spice this will not be for you. There are definitely some fun spicy scenes but this is an incredibly slow slow sloopw burn.
So worth the read. If you have a.dark sense of humor and like characfers who are unhinged in the best kind of way then this is a must!! I just finished book 6 and I swear they all just keep getting even more amazing. I laughed, I cried, I made my friend buy this lol! Highly recommend..one of my new favorite series ever.
