Description

Eighteen years after a crushing scandal derailed her career, Elia Sharpe has lived a life defined by guarded walls and professional isolation. She is finally ready to reclaim her potential as Head of School, but her plans are blindsided when her former student, Kamryn, is appointed to the role instead. To Elia, Kamryn is a reminder of everything she lost, an irritant whose presence threatens to stir up the ghosts of her past. Kamryn, meanwhile, is desperate for a fresh start following a bruising public breakup. When an awkward encounter with her ex at a local festival leaves her scrambling for dignity, she makes a reckless, spur-of-the-moment move: she kisses Elia. What follows is a precarious alliance—a fake-dating arrangement designed to get them through a high-profile wedding. But as the lines between performance and reality blur, their fragile truce is tested by the very shadows that drove them apart. With their reputations and careers hanging in the balance, Elia and Kamryn must decide if they are willing to risk everything to uncover the truth. Set against the backdrop of Massachusetts, this gripping romance explores the courage it takes to trust again when the world is waiting for you to fall.

A stellar read!

I love the way Adrian J Smith writes. There is so much passion, anxiety, and love in these characters. I just reread this and feel a deeper need to share my feelings for these characters, they are so well presented and lovingly detailed. The story is set in a private school where staff are maybe freer than in the current setting of public schools, here the students are controlled, respect is shared with parents, staff and children. Maybe that is why I have a deeper feeling for this book. I just know I love it.

Promises

I read the second book first not knowing it was a series, I read this book right after and I loved how it pieced together all the parts together and made it flow. I’ll definitely be reading the third in the series.
