Dex and Rome.. a sweet match!
I was so happy to see Rome get his redemption arc! This was the perfect way to end the series - even though I am sad to see it end!
In the first two books Rome has a big problem with deaf people dating hearing people and it wasn’t til this book that we really learned why he held such strong beliefs. Rome was holding onto grief and heartbreak from a hearing ex-boyfriend who treated him awfully in college. My heart broke for him the more I got to know him and I could really understand why he didn’t trust hearing people. He is forced to look at his misconceptions though because he hugely attracted to Dex, who is hearing and Thom’s brother (from book 1).
After a few hate hookups, because Rome hadn’t confronted his feelings yet, Rome ghosts Dex and moves to Paris. Three years later, Rome is back home - and he still isn’t over his feelings for Dex; and Dex isn’t over his feelings for Rome. After some miscommunication between the two of them - they finally go on a date and then another date and another.. and Rome realizes his preconceived notions of hearing people might not be completely accurate.
I loved loved loved these two! Dex is a total sweetheart who desperately wants Rome to reciprocate feelings but he made Rome work for what he wanted and I really respected that! Dex wanted something real and he made sure Rome was ready for that before giving his heart over.
Rome was a sappy sappy man when it came to Dex once he got over his hang ups and I loved seeing it. He was so…
