Description

Lizzie is a professional cellist whose life is perfectly structured until a viral video incident upends her career and leaves her questioning everything. Seeking a fresh start, she accepts a chaotic job offer that forces her out of her comfort zone and into the orbit of Cara, a local yoga instructor with a guarded heart and a penchant for pushing boundaries. What begins as an awkward professional acquaintance quickly spirals into a sizzling, complicated attraction. As they navigate the messy landscape of early adulthood, both women must confront the fears that have kept them from finding true intimacy. Whether they are dodging disastrous dates or rediscovering their own passions, Lizzie and Cara find that the most unexpected harmonies are often the ones you don’t see coming. Dugan delivers a sharp, witty rom-com that beautifully balances laugh-out-loud moments with the genuine vulnerability of falling in love. Featuring a cast of irresistibly flawed characters and a chemistry that practically leaps off the page, this story is a triumphant exploration of second chances, the courage it takes to be truly seen, and the messy, exhilarating journey of queer romance. It is a heartfelt reminder that sometimes, the biggest disasters lead to our most beautiful beginnings.

3.5/5

It was a good enough story with a nice dose of drama towards the end. There was a good representation of family problems and toxic relationships with parents. The characters were okay, but I didn’t feel the usual spark while reading this book. The beginning was promising, the middle felt a little flat, and the ending saved it all. Miscommunication and running away from problems were common in this story. The romance between Cara and Lizzie was cute in its messiness, and there were plenty of funny moments in this book, which made me smile. Overall, it is a pleasant book with a nice romance with a happy ending and a dash of drama.

lacking some character development

She looks miserable and not a single person here seems to notice but me. Lizzie has worked at James' family gym for the last five years, moving up to front desk manager. With the family business expanding, Lizzie has her eye on a promotion and becoming manager of the new gym opening up and hopefully, getting her own gym someday. But Lizzie hasn't worked up the nerve to even apply for the promotion yet, so when James begs her to be his plus one at his sister's wedding, enticing Lizzie with one-on-one time with his parents to impress them, she begrudgingly agrees. And then has a drunken conversation with James' sister Cara where she convinces Cara to ditch her fiance and wedding. I stop and wait for her to look up. Her eyes are already blissed out and unfocused, her lips parted in the most devious of smiles. And oh, this is gonna be fun. As soon as Lizzie saw and talked with Cara, she was in instant lust but tried to stay away because of “bro code”, not wanting to hurt her friendship with James. Along with this, Lizzie had some self-worth issues, her mother is an alcoholic who depends on Lizzie for money and therefore Lizzie can't save up money to do the things she wants to do in life. Cara is a lawyer who has been the golden child and Lizzie can't see why Cara would ever want to be with her. This was all told in Lizzie's pov, present tense, so readers don't really get insights to other characters. There were a couple times it felt clear that Cara was trying to hit on…

Love, love, love!

This story was a cheesy romantic comedy, and a very easy read without super heavy or dark themes. Like rewatching my favorite romcom over and over again

Good book

I was a little angry at the way everyone was using Lizzie but in the end I love the storyline and the happy ending. Is a good book to read.
