Description

What happens when the woman voted most likely to fail meets the woman who has everything figured out? In Loser of the Year, sparks fly in the most unexpected way when two polar opposites are forced into each other’s orbit. This isn’t just a story about falling in love; it is a witty, heartfelt exploration of self-discovery and the messy process of growing up. The chemistry is electric, rooted in a classic enemies-to-lovers dynamic that crackles with sharp banter and genuine emotional depth. But beyond the magnetic push-and-pull of the romance, the novel shines through its rich character development. Our leads are beautifully flawed, navigating personal insecurities, societal expectations, and the daunting search for their own identities. The writing is as hilarious as it is moving, striking a perfect balance between laugh-out-loud humor and poignant moments of vulnerability. It is a refreshing, grounded romance that proves sometimes you have to lose yourself before you can truly find a version of your life worth living. For readers who crave authentic lesbian protagonists, complex dynamics, and a story that lingers long after the final page, this book delivers a perfect, addictive read that earns its keep.

Well done.

The bar for a well written book is decidedly low in 2025. Give me a book with a decent plot and fewer than 10% grammatical errors and I'll be happy. Toss in a vocabulary that shows a level of sophistication and I'm salivating! What is received in this read was more than the mundane. Was it well written? Yes. Grammatical errors? Nope. Did the author have a clear voice? Mmm hmmm. Best love scene ever? Nope. But everything else was there. Yes, it's predictable. In the first ten pages you know what will inevitably unfold but the plot is believable and the religious angst, at least for me, all too familiar. Recommend both the author and the book! And no, not one spoiler here...just read and see.

You can feel what matters…

This was one of the most joyful books I’ve read in a while. Each word, sentence and/or paragraph provided a well of emotion. Not being a romantic person, I still felt the frustration, sadness, disappointment, and especially the love of the main characters. I laughed out loud in several spots and teared up in others. Congratulations, Ms. Byrd. This book is incredible. I strongly recommend you buy it.

Cute

Good enemies to lovers. Nice that it was about the background and had a plot instead of just sex scenes.

A wonderful mixed book of all the things that hold us back and push us forward.

More books that end in an orgasm please! Finally finished this book and I loved it. The story, the mix of people, culture and religion was so well done, cute in places, romantic in others and not lacking on the spice at all, Plus one of the little characters had my name and I giggled. 😁 It was a beautiful book and story, And I high key loved that the characters were down to earth and humble in their love at the end. I believed all characters and felt every perspective, So well done! 👏🏽

Loser of the Year

Carrie Byrd writes a compelling debut novel. I loved the storyline. The chemistry was vibrant. The banter was fun to read, and watching the relationship blossom was delightful. This was well-written. The angst was understandable, resolved timely and sufficiently. The secondary characters were fascinating. They brought so many emotions to the MCs, and they brought growth and grounding as well. They were supportive and brought insight to the MCs. I truly enjoyed this book and was sorry to see it end. With thos promising start for Byrd, I wait with bated breath for her next book.
