Description

Harper Reid thrives on solitude. As a mystery novelist facing a looming deadline, the silence of a secluded lake cabin is exactly what her process requires. That is, until she arrives to find the retreat double-booked with Sophie Calloway, a charismatic leather artisan who brings a chaotic, loud, and vibrantly energetic presence into Harper’s carefully curated sanctuary—complete with three vocal, squirrel-obsessed dogs. For the polished, brooding Harper, Sophie is an absolute nightmare—a whirlwind of chatter that threatens to shatter her focus. For the bold and unfiltered Sophie, Harper’s icy reserve is a puzzle she is determined to solve. They are polar opposites trapped in a pressure cooker of forced proximity, locking horns at every turn. Yet, when a wrong turn in the deep woods forces a rescue, the friction between them sparks into something far more dangerous than annoyance. As the wild beauty of the lakeside summer strips away their defenses, the initial hostility crumbles into an undeniable, magnetic pull. But as their rental period nears its end, the reality of their separate lives pulls at the seams of their burgeoning romance. They must choose between the easy comfort of retreat or the terrifying courage required to fight for a love that defies the distance.

Nothing extraordinary

This was a pleasant little read. The angst only lasts a few pages which include the inevitable third act breakup. The dogs were actually annoying so they played their parts well. The spicy scenes were very vanilla. There were several typos and mixed up characters. I did love the cover which convinced me to read the book. I'm not a fan of faceless MCs and AI generated characters. 3.5 stars
