Description

In the frost-bitten wilds of the North, survival is a brutal, daily test of strength. Kyra has spent her life carving out an existence in this unforgiving landscape, hardened by the elements and burdened by the weight of personal loss. She moves through the world like a ghost, guarding a heart she considers too fragile to expose to the biting cold. Yet, when a daring journey thrusts her into the company of a fierce and captivating woman, the frozen walls around her begin to crack. Kyra of the North is a gripping, character-driven adventure that balances the raw peril of the wilderness with the blooming intimacy of an unexpected romance. As Kyra traverses treacherous terrain, she is forced to confront the grief that has shaped her identity and decide whether love is a risk worth taking in a world that seldom offers mercy. This poignant tale captures the turbulent emotions of young adulthood, blending high-stakes exploration with a tender exploration of queer identity. It is an evocative journey of self-discovery, reminding us that even in the deepest winter, the warmth of a genuine connection can be enough to guide us home.

Fantasy & Adventure

I can say without a doubt this is one of the most unique books I’ve read! It’s a self-published YA fantasy novel by my friend and colleague, David Decker. Kyra of the North follows the journey of a young woman coming of age in a bygone era. The tale explores themes of loss, identity, and resilience painted on the landscape of an imaginative world. It is obvious that Decker poured his heart into creating Kyra’s universe. This genre is a little outside my typical realm, but the story will resonate with teen readers who enjoy character-driven stories with a blend of fantasy and adventure. Five stars to Decker for the hard work and dedication in bringing Kyra’s story to life. Also… let’s give a nod to the amazing cover art by Leslie Casilli!

5 stars, couldn’t put it down!

I just finished Kyra of the North by David Decker and ended up reading the whole thing in one day. The story grabbed me right away and kept me hooked. The characters were my favorite part. They felt real and easy to connect with, and I cared about what happened to them. That made all the twists in the story hit harder than they would’ve otherwise. I also really liked how much the book focused on family and friendship. There was a great mix of adventure, emotion, and twists. A few characters showed up that I didn’t expect, and they added a lot to the story. This one is definitely worth checking out.
