Description

Step into the chaotic, oversized world of Impromptu Match, where the stakes are high, the muscles are massive, and the romance is scorching. This kickoff to the Goliaths of Wrestling series trades high-drama angst for unadulterated fun, focusing on the electric connection between larger-than-life athletes who find themselves tangled in more than just wrestling holds. At its heart, this is a vibrantly queer love story that doesn't take itself too seriously. The narrative thrives on the hilarious antics of its inhuman, eccentric cast, transforming the rigid world of pro wrestling into a playground for ridiculous situations and undeniable chemistry. If you are looking for a plot-heavy epic, look elsewhere; this book is a celebration of atmosphere and physical connection. It embraces the absurdity of its premise, delivering a breezy, light-hearted experience that prioritizes pure entertainment value. Packed with plenty of spicy, high-heat interactions, Impromptu Match is the perfect escape for those who want their romance hot, their characters bold, and their reading experience entirely free of unnecessary heartbreak. Whether you are coming for the wrestling spectacle or the charmingly messy dynamics between the leads, this story delivers a vibrant, laugh-out-loud romp that feels just as big as its protagonists.

Gone Feral for Holt and Taylor!

Lily Mayne consistently delivers, and Impromptu Match was no exception—it absolutely wrecked me in the best way possible. I’m talking full-on obsession here. The story itself? Incredible. The audiobook experience? Divine. The narrator brought these characters to life in such a way that I was hooked from start to finish, laughing, gasping, and completely losing myself in this world. Taylor, the painfully average office worker, gets pulled into a monster-filled world thanks to a hilarious case of mistaken identity. His life goes from zero to chaos real quick, and I couldn’t get enough of it. Holt, the owner of Goliaths of Wrestling and an Empyn who absorbs emotions, is magnetic. These two have such insane chemistry, it’s like the air between them is constantly charged. Their dynamic is pure fire—full of tension, humor, and so much heart that I was completely obsessed. The humor? Maybe it’s not for everyone, but it was exactly what I needed. I was laughing out loud constantly. From Taylor’s reactions to the madness around him to the outrageous situations he finds himself in, I was cackling. And then the spice? O. M. G. The spice was spicing! and I was living for every second of it. There are so many side characters with such unique and intriguing personalities (seriously, I need to know everything about them), but I’m so glad none of them overshadowed the main couple. Larkin? Oh, I adored him. Naughty, mischievous, and hiding so much more beneath the surface. And the fact…

Laugh Out Loud Funny

This book was such an unexpected delight! I’m a huge fan of Lily Mayne’s Monstrous series and was excited to try this new world out. I knew from the blurb that it would veer away from the Monstrous series’ theme of trauma bonding, and go instead in the direction of a comedy of errors, but even that did not properly prepare me for the humor in this book. The ridiculously awkward and hilarious meet cute between the two main characters already had me hooked, but what followed after was addicting in its hilarity. I’ve never had a book make me laugh out loud nearly as much as this book did in just the first one hundred pages! I didn’t want to put it down and when I did have to step away, I couldn’t stop thinking about the story. What was the most impressive about this story though, was that while the humor was a stand out feature of the book, there was still a beautiful love story! The two MC’s are so wildly opposite but fit so well together and share amazingly sweet and heartfelt moments. The plot was great, the romance was great, the spice was on point, and the entire world and cast of characters were superb. The only reason this book gets four stars from me rather than five is because I found the second half of the book dragged on a bit and didn’t have the same steady humor as the first half. I didn’t need the entire book to be laugh out loud funny, but it shouldn’t feel like it was split in half and written with two different intentions. In any case, I can’t wait for the…

A banger!!!

I nearly peed my pants laughing at this book. These two hot idiots are perfect for each other. And I want to read every single side character's book! I just want to read Frank's and Bean's Karate Kid reboot. If anyone could make them romance heroes, it would be Lily Mayne. But she has made a huge task of it after their descriptions in this book. Taylor is bored. he's like sleepwalking through life after his ex dumped him a few years ago. Holt is definitely not boring. After a drunken night of secret spilling, they can't stay away from one another. Watching Holt bring Taylor back out of his shell is everything. And watching Taylor help Holt feel again was just as cute! And then you get into the other people that work for the Goliaths of Wrestling. You've got Holt's assistant, Larkin, his bodyguard, Seb, and few other people, and the WRESTLERS! The wrestlers are PERFECTION! There are so many different types of monsters in this wrestling league. She also introduced a monster corn business, which clearly has me very interested. I am also salivating for book 2 already!!! She set it up SO well. I'm just casually trying to figure out if she's going to do a concurrent moment or if she's going to pick up where this book left off. Her options are endless and I can't wait to see what she does with them!!! Audio Update: This was already one of my favorite series. I love love these hilarious monsters. But the audio?? It's perfection. The narration only added to the hilarity! I…

Hilariously Spicy

Yes. Yes, yes, yes, yes, ALL OF THE YES. I refuse to hear anything else. This book is it. It’s everything. Amazing doesn’t do it justice. I’ve forced multiple besties to read it after only reading a few chapter’s, and they loved it too. Taylor is an average guy stuck in a boring cycle. When a misunderstanding one night leads to everything changing and the excitement he didn’t know he needed enters his life. Holt and Taylor are goals. I love their dynamic and what they bring out of each other. I loved everything about this book. It’s just a good time. The characters are unique and so intriguing I want to know all of them. The storyline is sweet and I swooned HARD. The tension is delicious and holy cannoli is the spice spicy. Read the book. Just do it. I can’t recommend this book enough. I can’t wait for book 2 with Larkin and Seb!

Another Lily Mayne gem!

I knew this book would be good (as all Lily Mayne books are) when I finally got to read it but I didn’t expect this hilarious, heart-warming, wrestling office romance! ( I can’t believe I just put those three words together) I fell in love with fast burn between a bored PR employee and the owner of an underground monster wrestling league. 😈 I love these two for each other. So different but perfect together. Holt is party on the outside, party on the inside. He’s so unfiltered and says exactly how he’s feeling at the moment. Taylor is professional on the outside and party on the inside. He is “boring” office worker by day and the secret party animal by night. Holt brings out all the good parts about Taylor. I just love how hard and fast they fall for each other. ❤️ Oh and the wrestlers?! I love every last one of them! Especially Corey 💅 (He had me at nipple tassels and drag shows 😍 Can not wait for his book 👀). Also Seb and Larkin stealing a little screen time with their ‘will they, won’t they?’ thing going on in the background, was an excellent touch to welcome the second book. 😁
