I See Red (The We Belong Series)

An exceptional five-star debut by J.D. Locke that pleasantly surprised me in many ways! “I See Red” is a sweet, slow-paced story about two charming individuals, Alex and Cassie, who find themselves in a fateful situation that tests their characters and the love that neither of them is ready to admit and give in to. What happens when life shows you your soulmate, and then pits you against them in a corporate and sports battle? The book is incredible, honest, funny, realistic, and features the best character building I’ve come across in a while. “I See Red” proves that blushing, stuttering, nobility, and shyness can be damn sexy. This whole gently blushing cocktail is garnished with angry love, ice and burning hockey passions (and hey, I didn't like hockey before), finished with perfect touch of spiciness - this book grabbed me and dragged me into its plot from the first page and kept me in suspense until the very end. The secondary characters, charming as well as the main ones, promise potential development in a next book (or at least I hope to meet Kellan and Tricia again). From what I've read so far, I can say - expect more blushing surprises from this author! ;) Highly recommended!

I absolutely loved this sapphic office romance. All the characters had depth to them. I really enjoyed the batter and mischief Kellan brings to the book. Both Cassie and Alex are the most adorable characters in their own rights. The book was paced out very well. It never felt too slow or even rushed. I really enjoyed the slow burn aspect of the book. They didnt just jump in with each other they take their time. The authors writing was nicely done. I can't wait to see what else this author has up their sleeve. I will be recommending this to my friends.

I didn't know what to expect when I picked up a copy of JD Locke's debut novel, but I absolutely loved it! I breezed through it and stayed up WAY too late, wanting to know what happened next. 5-Stars Plus! The characters were so well developed, and the writing was well-crafted and easy to read. I love enemies-to-lovers and this book hit all the marks. The tension, humor, and steamy chemistry between Alex and Cassie were off the charts. I loved the side characters as well. I hope there's another book in the series coming out soon. Great job, JD. Loved it!

JD Locke’s debut novel is a triumph—witty, emotionally resonant, and expertly crafted. The writing is both intelligent and engaging, balancing sharp humor with genuine emotional depth. The central romance, with its perfectly paced “will they/won’t they” tension, kept me eagerly turning pages. As a nonbinary reader, I was especially moved by the thoughtful and authentic representation of a nonbinary character. It’s refreshing to see a story that treats gender identity with such care, nuance, and respect. This is an impressive and important first novel, and I’m already looking forward to the next installment in the series.

This book is quirky and fun. There's a spark and chemistry with a first kiss then screech! Uh oh, this can't be the enemy I've been hating since I found out someone new is coming in to take my job! Let the fun and redemption begin. When things aren't always what they seem you just have to look a little deeper. Well worth the read and can't wait until the next one.
