Hunt the Wood: An MM Red Riding Hood Retelling (Beautiful Nightmares Book 1)

Description

The woods outside the village are whispered to be sentient, a hungry labyrinth that swallows the unwary whole. For Elias, a young man burdened by a dangerous, burgeoning magic, the forest is more than a threat—it is a sanctuary. But when he is tasked with delivering a life-saving parcel to his grandmother’s isolated cottage, he finds himself stalked by a monstrous predator that is far more than a simple beast. This isn’t the fairy tale you remember. In this dark, lush reimagining of Red Riding Hood, the wolf is a shifting force of nature, and the lines between hunter and prey blur in the moonlight. As Elias treads the treacherous path, he uncovers a primal connection with the creature stalking his trail—a dangerous, combustible attraction that defies everything he has been taught about good and evil. Anna Fury crafts a world drenched in atmosphere and occult tension, where the romance is as sharp-edged as the thorns guarding the thicket. Hunt the Wood is a gripping, high-stakes collision of magic, desire, and survival. As the shadow of the wolf descends, Elias must decide if he will fight to escape the woods or surrender to the darkness, ultimately finding a destiny written in blood and devotion.

Very interesting take indeed

I was actually very surprised at the main love interest, I went into this thinking he would be some kind of werewolf. I was pleasantly surprised when ended up being uniquely different but also very familiar, the story unfolds decently for a war torn and veil torn dystopian world. It was functional and believable, a very unique take on magic and magical beings mixed into the mundane world. The witches power was interesting as well, considering how he didn’t have much power to begin with. Watching it evolve towards the end was nice. I’m also a huge fan of mating bites and blood related bonding rituals, that tickled my fancy. As a psychopath, I also like when characters are written in books as psychopathic as well, even if the actions of said character are a tad stereotypical. I like feeling represented in books, gives me hope that one day, I could be my version of “loved” by my life partner. The violence in this book was pretty tasty, and I liked how the characters weren’t scared to exact revenge or do what needed to be done. That being said, the build up for the climactic confrontation with Ryders grandmother was a let down. I expected more from an alleged powerful witch, she hardly fought back at all and it was over way too quickly for my liking. Overall I liked this book and would recommend it, it would’ve been nice if it was longer though

okay start

Was pretty slow going in the beginning as there was a lot of focus on the world building. But then the rest of the book was just a speed-run. We finally get to the point Wotan admits to Ryder about their bond and we barely get anything with it. Ryder essentially goes from being a weakling to an extremely powerful witch and yet we don’t get any of that added to the story. Nothing about him adjusting to his powers, what else he can use it for, nothing. And the battle with his grandmother was anti climatic, she didn’t even put up a fight, just ran away and was easily disposed of. And I still don’t see how the prologue ties into the rest of the story? What was the reason the grandmother sent Ryder? I understand to get information, but for what? Did it relate to who gave Myth magic to Ryder’s mother? Cause that also wasn’t addressed. The Rathmore Coven is clearly no longer a threat to Wotan by the end, but what was the reason for beefing anyway? It just feels like the story wasn’t fully fleshed out, and kind of feels unfinished. Still giving 3 stars cause it was good enough and seemed to open up an interesting world, but should’ve definitely been longer to really delve into this intricate world and the characters. Hoping the next ones have more depth to them.

Hunt no Longer

Hunt no longer for an amazing MM Red Riding Hood romance. This story was filled to the brim with magic, sex, and mystery. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a damn good MM fairy tail retelling. How, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to read the next book in this series.
