Description

For Chloe Hartley, a coveted spot as a pupil at the prestigious Firth Chambers is the culmination of years of grueling ambition. She knows the golden rule of law: keep your head down, maintain your professionalism, and absolutely never, ever entertain thoughts about your supervisor. But Victoria Shaw KC—brilliant, icy, and untouchable—makes following that rule a losing battle. Victoria is the epitome of control. She commands the courtroom with surgical precision and maintains a rigid distance that has kept her ascent to the top unblemished for fifteen years. She doesn't break rules, and she certainly doesn't cross lines with her subordinates. When a volatile, high-profile murder trial forces them into a claustrophobic cycle of grueling strategy sessions and midnight discovery, the professional veneer begins to crack. As they fight to prove their client’s innocence, the friction between them ignites into something far more dangerous than office politics. Chloe is determined to prove she belongs, while Victoria discovers that her long-held restraint is no match for the pull of genuine desire. In the high-stakes world of law, one wrong move can destroy a career. But as the line between authority and intimacy blurs, they realize that surrendering to each other might be the greatest risk of all.

Poetic Ice Queen

The poetic way the story was written captivated me. The relationship was not rushed it grew. Loved every word I read.

Enjoyable

What an age gap that was beautifully written and told. Victoria has been hurt and not sure on ‘how to get back on the proverbial horse’ for dating. There is instant attraction that Victoria is going not now. Well, attraction doesn’t listen and it was just a matter of time. The romance is hot and how the MC’s figure it out works wonderfully. I loved how quietly Chloe suggested ideas and helped to curate helping their client. The verdict rendered was I felt befitting the circumstances. The ending was worded quite interesting since it told us that Victoria was becoming accustomed to having Chloe around to have a lived in home.

Great read

Enjoyed the characters. The storyline was well written and heart felt. Two happy endings, are always better than one. Will be reading the next book in the series.

What a marvelous read! A lonely barrister and her pupil working to win a difficult case.

Clara Beckett is quite a descriptive writer. This is the first book of hers I have read, I am not disappointed! The world she has brought us to is intense, a law practice in London. The difficult case of murder vs self defense in a domestic abuse situation is deep and well written. The relationship that develops between the pupil and the barrister is realistic. Just fine writing all around!

Short and good

This book was short but good. The spice wasn't intense so to speak but mild. The Ending was good but might have been a tiny bit better All in all though this book is decent.
