Description

Life in Coshgromar has finally granted Jessara the one thing she never thought possible: a peaceful home alongside the woman she loves. After turning her back on the kingdom that raised her, the former assassin has traded bloodshed for sanctuary. But in a world where the King’s reach is long and his grip is cruel, tranquility is merely a temporary reprieve. When a vital artifact is stolen from under their noses, Jessara is forced back into the shadows to orchestrate a high-stakes heist that could save everything she holds dear. She isn't walking this path alone, however. By her side is Asha, a fire sorceress fueled by both deep devotion and the sting of a past failure. Together, the couple assembles a motley crew of outcasts—a cerebral scholar, a quick-witted shapeshifter, and a powerful telepath—to infiltrate the heart of enemy territory. Their destination is the capital of the Compact, a place designed to break someone like Asha and crush their rebellion before it even begins. Facing monstrous creatures and agonizing truths, the team must survive an impossible mission. In a narrative that crackles with forbidden magic and intense emotional stakes, this is a story of endurance, sacrifice, and the enduring power of a love forged in the fires of defiance.

Would you fight for your soulmate... if you couldn't remember them?

Hot on the heels of the first in the series, we're flung into events in Dremeria a year after Asha and Jessara's climatic 5th? 6th? 29th? escape from death at the end of the first book, and right into another brush with certain oblivion. As if the author had presciently read my mind about the rough edges of the first book, this one from page one flows more smoothly and much improved. Much like the first book, 'Heist' steadily ramps up to a climactic finish, with another cliffhanger ending leaving us wanting more. There's a stronger thread of romance in this story, but with a massive helping of bittersweet. No spoilers, but you will be rooting for our two love birds the whole way through, while feeling a knife in your heart (much the same as one of the characters). You see it coming, you see it played out, you see the after effects, all quite brilliantly done. Bravo! This doesn't diminish from the stabby and slashy at all, but now with an element of thievery thrown in it takes a different tone and focus. It kept me gleefully glued to the story waiting to see where it would go and how events would play out. Heist doesn't disappoint with more character development and expansion. We learn more of the Red Daggers - the arguably evil cult of magic-snatchers using children for nefarious purposes - and the King, at one time a father figure to Jessara, shows more of his true colors and warped personality. Even Harriott, Jessara's grudging respectful former peer gets some…

Avoids Sequel Syndrome, Wonderful Use of Inspiration from Real Life Experiences

I read a very early copy of this book, and I think it very much deserves your time. In the second book of this series, N. R. G. Selove does a wonderful job of using tension to keep readers engaged in a way that doesn't feel like the story has to constantly ramp up the action to do so, which is something that frustrates me with a lot of sequels. Without giving away any spoilers, the author takes inspiration from his own experience of rediscovery to portray an important part of this story, and I think that his use of inspiration from real people and real events helps to create such a nuanced and immersive story, and it's one of the author's biggest strengths that I've seen in this series. I'm not someone who normally reads books of this genre, but the writing is so good that it's enough to pull me in from a few genres over. Definitely worth a read.

Amazing!

I didn't think anything could be better than the first book, but hates-everyone-but-you hits different when it's from an autistic FMC. Everything you can think of times ten happened in this book and they still found time for a full romance arc. There's tropes galore and tons of little moments between Jessara and Asha amid the plot thickening. I was screaming the entire way through! All opinions are my own. Thank you N.R.G. Selove for the ARC!

N.R.G. Selove's Latest Masterpiece is a MUST READ!

N.R.G. Selove’s Heist of the Assassin and the Sorceress is a standout romantic fantasy adventure that delivers on every promise it makes. The world is vivid and immersive, the pacing sharp, and the characters compelling from the moment they appear on the page. The dynamic between the assassin and the sorceress is beautifully written — equal parts tension, tenderness, and slow‑burn intrigue. Selove balances romance and adventure with impressive skill, creating a story that feels both sweeping and intimate. This was a remarkable read, and I’m genuinely excited to explore more of Selove’s work. Fans of romantic fantasy will find so much to love here. A must read!
