Description

Helen McKenzie is a woman defined by the ghosts of her past, carrying heavy, unseen burdens that have kept her heart locked away for years. Andrea Kralj, a talented chef, navigates her own landscape of trauma; she is a survivor of cancer, left with physical reminders of her battle and a deep-seated fear of intimacy that has become a self-imposed prison. When these two souls cross paths, their connection is immediate, grounded in a rare, mutual recognition of the pain the other carries. Helen refuses to look away from Andrea’s scars, seeing beyond the burns to the beauty of the woman beneath. In turn, Andrea discovers in Helen a resilient strength that mirrors her own desperate desire to keep living. Their bond blossoms in the quiet intimacy of kitchen whispers and candlelit confessions, moving from tentative glances to a profound emotional vulnerability. It is a fragile dance of healing, where kisses taste of lingering grief and the sweet promise of redemption. Heart of Spice is a poignant sapphic journey through the messy, radiant process of being broken and meticulously put back together. It is a testament to the belief that love does not demand wholeness—only the courage to be seen.

Food and Love are interesting....a bit of spice and lots of steam

Heart of Spice is the second book in the Heart series by V. Dalmatina. I was as impressed with this one as I was with Heart of Salt. The wonderful characters are just outstanding in personality and history. It was engaging in the way the main characters navigated the challenging histories each brought into the relationship they were circling. This read is steamier than the first book and I will attribute that to the characters’ personalities. I also like steam and connection on all kinds of levels. I was surprised at how ink was used in this book and that is all on that front….it was however educational to learn about different kinds and uses of it. I say that because I hope even when reading great fiction like this, I learn something new about the world and this series thus far has done that without exception. The emotional intensity of this book was so encompassing that I had difficulty putting my e-reader down to do anything until I had read the whole book. The length of this book lends itself to any reader. I am excited to move on to Heart of Love. At this point my suggestion would be to pick up this amazing Sapphic series and enjoy…. but start with Heart of Salt it will make this second book flow without confusion. I am once again grateful for the opportunity to share my review after reading an ARC provided by the author.

Gentle Slow-Burn Romance

Helen and Andrea are both women with scars from their past. Andrea, as a cancer survivor, is beautifully portrayed with ups and downs, strength and vulnerability, similar to Helen, but with her own flaws. This romance reminds me of Major Ashley and Kate's story, and I love it.

Sweet romance

I enjoyed this slow burn romance; the emotional challenges they work through bring hope. I thought it was a very touching story and showed realistic progress of the healing of their emotional and physical scars. I recommend this book to people hoping for a happy ending.
