Description

Evie Calder thought she had successfully traded her dreams of glamour for the quiet stability of a diner job in her sleepy hometown. She also thought she had successfully buried the memory of Kaia Rhee, her former best friend and first love who left their small town to become a global pop superstar. But when a nightmarish demon tears through the fabric of reality during her shift, the life Evie built comes crashing down around her. Her savior is as unlikely as she is lethal: Kaia Rhee, shimmering with otherworldly energy and leading a secret life as a magical guardian. Forced into a bizarre, high-stakes arrangement, Evie is trapped under the protection of Kaia’s girl group, who have turned her diner into a supernatural war room. Now, Evie is bound by a magical vow of silence and tethered to the very woman who shattered her heart years ago. For Kaia, homecoming is a tactical mission to prevent a demonic bloodbath. For Evie, it is a complicated tangle of resentment, buried desire, and dangerous secrets. Amidst narrow escapes and flickering sparks, they must decide if the ghosts of their past are worth fighting for—or if the price of salvation is a love that was never meant to survive the spotlight.

✨Magical Sapphic Pop Star Romance ✨

Not going to lie, it took me a minute to get into the beginning of the story simply because there were a lot of characters to get to know right off the bat, but don't let that deter you from picking this up. I loved Kpop demon hunters, so naturally I knew this book was right up my alley. I wasn't sure what to expect in this "world", being it was the first in a new series, but Moira Darling doesn't disappoint. This story was most definitely a slowwww burn sapphic, paranormal romance with some spice. I liked Evie's character development throughout the story, her and her grandma were two of my favorite characters. ☕ 🥞 I'm really excited for the next book and continuing the adventure! ⚔️🌟 Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ & 1/2 Tropes include: •Slow burn 🔥 •Touch her and 💀 •Small town nostalgia 🎆 •Second chances •Magical girl pop stars ✨ 👩🏻‍🎤 •Femme for Femme 💅🏻 •Childhood best friends 👭🏻 •Forced proximity

Loved it!

Loved it! Strong female characters being celebrities while also fighting demons? Yes, please. It's pretty obvious what the inspiration is for this book and series is, and it nails it, along with also being a highly enjoyable (and emotional) second chance romance. Kaia and Evie both have their hurt and internal struggles, but beneath all of that is such a strong and adorable love, and seeing them work their way to the point of reconciliation (and more) was wonderful. It isn't an easy ride, of course, but Kaia's bandmates and Evie's grandmother are great support for them. Even with the inspirations, the setting is something of its own, crafted well, and I am very curious to see how it all develops, especially with aspects that were hinted at during the story. Will we get an overarching plot between the books? I don't know, but I am eager to see what happens next (and how Kaia and Evie handle all of the changes to their lives).

fame, magic, and sapphic tension… I’m in

did not expect to read a sapphic popstar paranormal book… but wow this combo works so well. This isn’t just magic and power… it’s fame, pressure, performance, and what it costs to be seen — especially as a woman loving woman in the spotlight. The popstar element adds this whole extra layer of tension because everything is public, everything is watched, and nothing is ever truly yours. And the sapphic romance?? It actually feels charged. There’s tension, longing, and that push and pull between desire and risk — especially when you’re not just dealing with feelings, but also reputation, control, and everything that could be taken from you. Then you layer in the paranormal side and suddenly it’s not just emotional stakes… it’s dangerous. Like something is always lurking under the surface, waiting to explode, and you can feel it building the entire time. What really hooked me was that contrast: who they are on stage vs who they are in private what they show the world vs what they’re hiding what they want vs what they’re allowed to have It’s messy, intense, and a little chaotic in the best way. If you love: ✨ sapphic romance with real tension ✨ popstar / celebrity drama ✨ paranormal twists + hidden danger ✨ that “everything is about to spiral” energy you’ll eat this up.

Sapphic KPDH style crossover

4.5/5 As a mom to a seven year old you can bet that we are very familiar with KPop Demon Hunters in this house, naturally had to get in on this inspired sapphic story. I’ll start by saying I loved Evie and could follow her around like a puppy, will happily accept my reprimands. The heavy mental and emotional burdens she carries so long without complaint. Even her anger never seemed to turn resentful. Strong is the best way to describe her imo. Kaia, fierce protector who is working on remembering that it’s okay to let someone in on the hard decisions. I loved how hard she fought the return home just to spend the entire time back there fighting to keep literally any kind of distance requested by literally any one. I’m looking forward to continuing the series and seeing how these two grow along the way.

Sapphic version of KPop Demon Hunters

3.5 stars I was given an ARC copy of Halo by author Moira Darling. Thank you Moria the chance to be an ARC reader again! Halo by Moira Darling is a sapphic version of KPop Demon Hunters with second chance, slow burn, and angsty yearning vibes. Moria Darling has again expertly written a book with very vivid scenes that take you into the story. I could literally feel the angst between Evie and Kaia and just wanted them to be back together so bad. I will admit that I still have not seen KPop Demon Hunters yet, but it’s on my list to see and this book has made we want to watch even more. I enjoyed reading the interactions between the pop stars as they acted like siblings by picking on one another, but also supporting each other 100%. The way Moira described the performance scenes for the pop group while they were preforming and fighting the “demon” was amazing as well. I could picture it in my head as I read. The overall story was enjoying to read and I was so happy for Evie and Kaia at the end I almost cheered out loud. The way Moira has written this book I can easily see more books to come for this new world she has made as I would be interested in a story on the other three pop stars in the group as well.
