Description

Milo Hall is the Minnesota Fury’s stoic wall, a twenty-three-year-old goaltender who treats his professional life like a fortress. He guards the net with precision and his personal life with silence, keeping his anxiety and his closeted identity tucked safely behind his mask. He prefers the cold solitude of the rink to the scrutiny of the public eye, until the arrival of a new left winger threatens his carefully constructed equilibrium. Beau Bennett is the antithesis of everything Milo stands for. Chaotic, magnetic, and reeling from an unexpected trade, Beau is an anchorless force of nature who happens to be devastatingly attractive. When professional circumstances force them into a shared living arrangement, the proximity turns into a crucible. As they navigate late-night vulnerability and undeniable, crackling chemistry, the barriers Milo spent years building begin to crumble. Beau is supposedly straight, and Milo is supposedly untouchable, but their connection defies every boundary they’ve set for themselves. Amidst the high-stakes pressure of professional hockey and the sting of locker-room rumors, they must confront a terrifying reality: the choice between remaining comfortably hidden or daring to be truly seen. This is a story of vulnerability, the courage to claim one's identity, and the risk of falling for someone who changes everything.

I loved the characters

I absolutely adored the characters and how layered they were! As a hockey fan, I also loved the game aspects. I do wish there had been epilogue or more of a comprehensive conclusion for some of the open threads but overall, I enjoyed the romance.

Is this Heated Rivalry coded... yes, and it is such a fun coding!! We get some nods to icon moments (what color ;) ), we get sweet and spicy, we get some family drama. We also get distinct characters that stick with you. These two are adorable and fun and bring out a chance to just be honest about yourself and your wants and needs. I am also excited to see the rest of the series play out because I have a feeling this team is going to be full of queer relationships that deserve sunshine.

Great potential - just missed the mark

I've been in my MM Hockey Romance Era for about 6 months and when I saw Emma share her WIP on Threads, AND it included a goalie - I def followed and was like "GIMME" when I saw she was looking for ARC readers. I've struggled with this review - because this has ALOT of potential and I LOVED our MMC's Beau and Milo. I love a good "idiots to lovers" plot and watching these two navigate the world together. I struggled because I'm a reader who needs a clear understanding of the timeline and some of it didn't make sense in how a hockey season runs. There were several plot lines that just seemed to drop in and than not exist again. The secondary characters were there and I can def see the development for the series. I just felt that, oddly being in my MM hockey romance era, I haven't read HR but I feel like the author was super excited to get in on the current trends - that this was just rushed and released before the book was ready and it needs some really good edits and a re-release. All that said - it was a quick read and I'll be on the lookout for more Minnesota Fury stories!

A steamy debut MM hockey romance

4.25 stars. This is an honest review, where all thoughts are my own, after being provided a pre-published copy of the ebook. A very good debut novel. There’s sexiness, yearning, and tons of hockey! I liked that both Beau and Milo have multiple layers to them and aren’t one dimensional characters. From addiction to homophobia, these guys experience life and have both those who help them find themselves, as well as those who want to keep them in the closet. Loved the other player’s interactions too and I hope we get to see more of them in the future!

Fast paced and adorable

This was a fast paced, very cute read. I could definitely see the Rachel Reid influence—from “Heated Rivalry” to “A Time to Shine”, but Milo and Beau had their own voices and their own story to tell. While some pieces felt like moments strung together and others felt rushed, I enjoyed this one. That ending though 😦😦😦…. I received an advanced reader copy for free and am leaving a review voluntarily.
