Description

Deryn Crowhart is a force of nature, a celebrity pastry chef with a penchant for chaos and a deep-seated resistance to putting down roots. Returning to the town of Dragons, she intends to breeze through her stay, tethered to no one and nothing. But in a town haunted by the shadows of the historic Salem witch trials and defined by the heavy legacy of the Crowhart name, destiny has a way of complicating even the simplest plans. Enter Paloma Allende, a formidable businesswoman whose laser-focus is set on a grueling campaign for town office. Paloma thrives on order and ambition, and she certainly doesn't have time for a brash, restless baker who threatens to upend her carefully constructed public image. Yet, when necessity strikes, the two strike a deal: a fake romance intended to bolster Paloma’s political standing and keep Deryn’s wandering spirit occupied during her residency. As they navigate the skepticism of a town that loves to gossip, the lines between performance and reality begin to blur. Fire meets fire in this scorching addition to the Crow’s Coven series, where ancient curses, small-town secrets, and an undeniable chemistry threaten to consume everything these two headstrong women have built.

Excellent second installment in the Crow’s Coven series!

Delightful second installment in the Crow’s Coven series! What’s not to love here? Deryn and Paloma figuring out what they mean to each other—both present day and in the past. As per usual with a Milena McKay book this one has two layers: the story between the MCs and Paloma’s desire to win the mayoral race on Dragon’s and create a safe space for folks seeking refuge from physical and/or emotional abuse. This one is very spicy, very witty, and offers more clues about the ultimate baddie(s) threatening the Crowharts. Can be read as a standalone, but those who have already dived into the McKay universe will be rewarded with references to previous books. Not to be missed!!!

The vision. The Eyes. The woman.

“Come, Earth, give her strength, hold her safe…” “Come, Wind, bring her comfort, hold her safe…” “Come, Water, wash her pain, hold her safe…” The vision. The Eyes. The woman. Bewitched again. From the end of Windburn to the (quiet) beginning of something forthcoming, Firewild is the story placed in-between. When emerald eyes meet amber eyes, when fire meets fate and when love is not bound by time but tragedy, here is the space you will live. Fated lovers across generations. Visions that cannot be escaped, denied, or ignored. You are here to know - gather round the coven - to get a glimpse of the arc, the story, the emotions evoked by the alluring words McKay writes, and you, the reader, feel the burn. A story one sister knew well and for another, Deryn, had just begun. Paloma Allende, new to the island, finds herself executing a vision facilitated by Headmistress Knox - building and opening a luxury hotel while following her own passion by breaking traditions in a race to be Dragons first woman Mayor. Finding a place to call home. Under the ice, we find a woman alone, drowning in loss, ruined by past betrayals spending years within a protective shield. It worked. Until the fire burned and the flames called on her without warning and without apology. Enter Deryn [middle name for you to find out] Crowhart. The celesbian, tomboi, ginger, masc, golden retriever pastry chef. Back from decades of being away. Sorrow. Loneliness and ache. Always in trouble, always lusted,…

The crows are circling

I enjoyed Deryn and Paloma's journey to each other. A lot of Deryn's internal struggles really spoke to me. Another excellent read from Ms. McKay.
