Description

Danyaal has spent his entire life molding himself to fit the expectations of his family and community. He is a quiet observer of his own existence, carefully tucking away the parts of his heart that do not align with the rigid path laid out before him. But as he stands on the precipice of adulthood, the internal tension between his duty and his true self becomes impossible to ignore. When a sudden, unexpected connection sparks within his world, Danyaal is forced to confront the reality of his own desires. What begins as a hesitant friendship blossoms into a profound, secret affection that challenges every boundary he has ever known. This is a story about the quiet courage required to claim one's identity in a society that demands conformity. It explores the delicate balance of navigating cultural expectations while listening to the insistent voice of the heart. Finding Danyaal is a tender and deeply moving coming-of-age journey that celebrates the beauty of vulnerability. It is a testament to the risks we take for love and the transformative power of self-acceptance. This beautifully crafted narrative offers a gentle, heartfelt look at what it truly means to find oneself, even when the world asks you to remain lost.

A riveting story about love and struggle

I read this book at the recommendation of a friend and was immediately drawn in and riveted by the struggles of a young boy who comes to the realization that he is gay in a country that not only doesn’t accept it, but outwardly prohibits it. The story of Rami brought tears to my eyes and angered me. It’s a story of love and sacrifice with lots of pain and fear. This is a great read that I would highly recommend!

Beautifully written

Finding Danyaal is a beautifully told story of a young man struggling. Struggling with who he is, struggling with trying to find himself within the strict and conservative norms of his everyday life. As trite as it may sound, it's very clear that the point of the story is not really the destination, but the journey. Rami learns a lot in his journey, and so do we. The author's descriptions of the people and places and events are all perfect. The pictures that Mr. Ahmad paints for us with his lovely prose puts us in the Middle East and makes us feel everything that his characters are going through. And while the setting is the Middle East, it's a story that could just as easily take place in North Carolina. It is a human story full of heart. I loved it - and would love to see it made into a movie and/or Netflix series.

OMG what a great book!!!!!

I loved this book! It has so many aspects of life depicted and the effort and dangers of loving someone outside of the norms of society. It’s a heart warming story that gives you a look at the Arab world and radical beliefs. I personally think it is movie material.
