Description

Nica traveled to the Florida wetlands expecting nothing more than soil samples and water analysis. When a routine field collection leads to a jagged cut on her hand, she assumes the worst is a simple infection. Instead, she discovers something impossible. A strange, ancient bacteria is rewriting her biology, gently but irrevocably shifting her body into the woman she has always felt herself to be. As the physical transition accelerates, Nica finds herself leaning on her lifelong best friend, Elias. Their dynamic, once defined by the comfortable boundaries of platonic history, begins to bloom into something deeper and more profound. Elias does not just witness her metamorphosis; he embraces the person she is becoming with a devotion that challenges her to accept her new reality. This story is a poignant exploration of identity, biological wonder, and the courage required to inhabit one’s true self. It masterfully blends speculative science with a tender, slow-burn romance that celebrates the beauty of becoming. At its heart, this is a love story about being seen, both by the person who knows you best and by the person you see when you finally look in the mirror. Prepare for a transformative journey that lingers long after the final page.
