First of all the dedication for this book was absolutely stellar and caught me right away. While the begining was a bit scattered, it made sense because the characters themselves were trying to find their footing. Avery is a softball playing human who has to hide a lot of herself from her controlling, extreme right leaning father. She is seeking a form of sanctuary from real life. Cricket is a faun who is trying to protect her family and escape her own over protective parents. She's seeking literal sanctuary from a monster who chased her all the way to camp. The two face challenges of supernatural and humans alike- and find a home with each other
This was my first strictly sapphic story and I absolutely devoured it. I really loved the way that the author used differences in species to emphasize even more of the prejudice against the main characters.
This was a very sweet FF monster romance. Loved the amount of angst mixed with plot and characters. Not a ton of world building around the monsters but the story didn’t need it. The author pulled in many types of creatures pretty seamlessly. The villain was the right amount of evil, though in real life probably would have been legally sneakier and loved that we got a HEA.

Meaningful sapphic romance
The world presented in this book has so much potential to be a series, and I am excited to see where it goes. Cricket and Avery are such amazing characters, each confronting their own issues and learning to rely on one another. Avery's religious trauma and her learning to stand up for marginalized groups was a beautiful storyline. Cricket's conviction and drive to save her family was heartwarming, and the characters in Cricket's family and in the camp really stood out to me as a reader. I related to Cricket and her conviction and strength, but also I understand that Avery's story will resonate with a lot of readers. This book is more than just a feel good romance, but there are still beautifully romantic (and spicy) scenes that are the center of the story. I need more books in this world!

This is quite the readable story, don't let the three star fool you. The two MCs work well together, and have good chemistry throughout the book. Storyline is interesting enough to want to keep you reading until. For me a few of the in chapter scene changes were a little disconnecting. Like the previous scene was quite done before were in the next. Still found this an enjoyable read and will likely check out another from this author.
It was sweet monster romance. Modern world mixed with supernatural one. I admired Avery’s strength and bravery that despite her upbringing she evolve into new wonderful version of herself and also Cricket’s determination to save her family despite nobody believed in her. I liked this story a lot. Definitely worth reading.
