Description

Bastian Fontenot and Tikhon Volkov are the two most volatile elements in the Atlanta Firebirds locker room. Bastian is a loud, chaotic Cajun forward struggling to channel his ADHD, while Tikhon is a guarded, precise Russian winger terrified of the consequences of coming out in the NHL. Their history is paved with bitter insults and a monumental playoff blowup that left them despising one another. Now forced to share a jersey as part of a new expansion team, their frosty rivalry is the talk of the league. Everything changes when a litter of unwanted kittens arrives at the rink. Forced to step up to keep the bonded siblings together, they each adopt one kitten, only to realize they live in the same apartment building. An awkward co-parenting arrangement begins, turning their daily kitten handoffs into shared dinners and vulnerable, late-night conversations. As the lines between teammates and lovers blur inside the privacy of their homes, the facade they’ve built at the arena begins to crumble. Set against the backdrop of a found-family locker room, this is a tender, high-stakes exploration of what happens when two sworn enemies are forced to bridge the gap and finally face the heat of their own attraction.

Loved Bastian & Tikh

A rivalry like no other. One based on cruel words that were spoken in a handshake line after a game. Bastian, the man who never stops, with an ADHD brain with a hundred tabs open at once. Tikh Volkov, the stoic Russian who has never culturally fit with any team he’s ever been on. When Volkov is traded as part of the NHL expansion and ends up on the same team as his bitter rival, Bastian Fotenot, sparks fly and routes and shifts are blown because the two of them can’t play together. The Team Cat, Kerimore, has kittens. 5 of them. Berger creates a leaderboard to determine who has first pick. Bastian and Tikh get kittens 4 and 5…the pair that is bonded and who cry and refuse to eat unless they are together. This forces the pair to co-parent the kittens. What begins with ‘for the cats’ becomes so much more and Bastian can’t handle not being ‘seen’ and Tikh wants to keep the closet closed on their relationship. The hurt they cause one another is painful. They do get their HEA or maybe a HFN since they haven’t officially resolved some of the issues like Avi and Ash have from Book 1. The final chapters of the book are poignantly sweet with all the feels. It was easier to relate to Baz than to Tikh. Tikh seemed very aloof and unapproachable at times, even when he was doing all the right things, the tender things that meant so much had Bastian only realised it before blowing everything to smithereens. Håjek, a vocal character from book 1, is downgraded to a few lines in the…

Kittens and Hockey!

This book is awesome! There are hot hockey players raising kittens, a group chat between the team that is hilarious, and a love story with a happy ending. It is a little heavy on the hockey details. This is the 2nd book in a series and it is really good. Looking forward to the next one that comes out in April.

3.5

There was a peek at their complex relationship in the first book. The kittens push the men together. What I couldn’t understand is the “all of the sudden” aspect to the beginning of their relationship. Like the first book, it feels like it ends abruptly.
