Description

In the quiet, unassuming town of Everlasting, the line between the ordinary and the extraordinary is thinner than anyone suspects. Here, the scent of smoke and pine needles carries more than just the promise of a peaceful life; it carries the pulse of magic. For the brave souls serving on the local fire crew, the danger they face isn't always found in the heat of a burning building. Sometimes, it is found in the intense, flickering connection between two people who were never meant to cross paths. This collection of interconnected stories explores what it truly means to love well after life has left its mark. As witches, dragons, and protectors navigate the complexities of their supernatural heritage, they must also face the universal struggle of opening their hearts to those who understand them best. Whether they are battling ancient forces or simply the fear of being vulnerable, these characters find solace in the arms of the ones who see them for who they really are. With a signature blend of gentle intimacy and high-stakes wonder, these tales celebrate the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of a love that is meant to last forever.

Messy, lovely, feelings

I pretty much own all the R. Cooper books and those I don't own are on my wishlist -- and they will be mine! I just love the way the interactions between people are written. They feel so real. The hesitations, the two words followed by a pause followed by a frustrated rush of talk -- all the while you get these great thoughts and feelings that are so beautiful and wonderful, but that the character can't or won't express. Eventually, of course, someone (often multiple someones) will say something that causes an epiphany and all the messy, lovely feelings come out -- often in front of the whole town! I loved this story and the stories within this story. By the end, I was picturing myself as Jessie behind the counter, propped up on her elbows, hearts in her eyes, leaning forward to be part of all the happy endings!
