Amazing, one of the best books ever!
All of my reviews can be found at The Romantic Reader Blog. Stop by, 100% dedicated to the reviews of lesbian romance novels!
Well, Rachel Spangler did it. What you ask, what did she do? Wrote the best damn books ever, that's what she did. In the past few weeks, I have read some of the best books all year. A year, quite frankly wasn't that impressive in the lesbian romance genre. Somehow fall became explosive with amazing tales with fabulous characters in dazzling plots. It seems like every book I have read since September has just been so fantastic they make you literally stop and swoon. Greatness, followed by greatness. This book is different though, it is absolutely is one of the best books of the year but more than that, it is easily one of the best romance books I have EVER read.
First off I love the Olympics and pretty much all sports in general. With that being said, what I don't want is ever read a how-to on playing said sport. Don't worry, Rachel Spangler isn't going to give you the ins and outs of downhill skiing or a dissertation on how to ride a snowboard. No way, she took me down the side of the mountain let me feel and see what the character does. You read this book you literally feel like your racing down the side of a mountain being pulled by G-forces as your stapped to two polycarbonate sticks. I was wrapped in those moments, spellbound. She doesn't just write the sports aspect amazing well, no that's not why we are here. The romance is the main…

Good fun read. Seems fairly realistic from a fans perspective. Not an Olympian. Realistic in the character's relationships. Reminds me that Olympians while amazing human athletes, are still human with the same, if not worse emotional issues as non Olympians. To read while the winter Olympics are going on, just fueled my USA spirit even more. Great work! Go USA! 🇺🇸

I am a fan of Rachel Spangler’s stories and this one wins the gold! It is worth reading again and again and maybe again. It is a great romance and a fantastic sport story. And I think readers will like it even if they are not fans of sport. The snow sport action was so realistic I had to put a sweater on when reading about how one of the main characters described the feel of the cold wind when skiing at 70mph full bore down a ski hill. And the description of the contact in snow cross got this old rugby player’s love of contact sport eager to watch what will be a new favorite winter sport. The author’s descriptions of the pressure cooker atmosphere in the lead up to and during the Games was spot on. And so was the back story of all the extra special physical training in the athletes’ village. I hope we see these characters return in another story, would like to find out how their lives get on in what seemed like a bright future.
Just this last weekend, I did something I haven’t done in a really long time. I read four books in two days. I just pulled out the Kindle, made myself comfy, and started reading. It was kind of spectacular.
One of the books I chose to read is Edge of Glory by Rachel Spangler (Bywater Books). I’ve read a number of Spangler’s previous novels and, I’ve got to say, I think this is her best yet. This is Spangler’s third Bywater release. Each one been better than the one before. It’s impressive and very clear that Spangler has been working diligently on her craft. The depth and range of her characters is quite excellent. The research behind the story is very evident and woven nicely into the story. Her narrative description is evocative and avoids falling prey to information dumps.
If you’ve read my reviews in the past, then you know I’m a sucker for great, three-dimensional characters. In this, Spangler does not disappoint. From the outset of the novel, Spangler wastes no time letting us know exactly who our two main characters are – Corey, the cocky, fun-loving snowboarder and Elise, the focused and far-too-uptight skier. We learn enough about their backgrounds right off the bat to give us a bit of grounding and preparation for what’s to come. It sets us up wonderfully for the moment these two very different women meet. And what a first meeting it is! (I’m not going to give more detail than that – I do all I can to avoid spoilers.) As Corey and Elise travel in each other’s…
I absolutely loved this book. I have read others from Rachel Spangler and this was by far the best one. It’s one of my new all time favorite books. From start to finish, I could barely put the book down. I loved all of the characters, especially Corey. I loved her persistence, quirkiness, and tenderness. All of the characters made the book special in their own little ways. The story line between Corey and Elise felt pure, relatable, and real. Loved seeing how it turned out for them in the end and it really shows that “if it’s meant to be, it will be.” This is a book that I would love to see on the big screen! Kudos Rachel Spangler on a fantastic novel.
