Description

For eight years, I’ve committed myself to the ethical ghoul lifestyle, working in the hidden kitchen of Broth with a Bite at the local mall. By serving specialized, non-human meals to my fellow ghouls, I’ve managed to curb my more primal cravings without compromising my conscience. My life was perfectly—if uneventfully—dull, until Ricky walked in. Ricky is a human. He’s shy, he’s got incredible hair, and he smells like a five-course gourmet meal that I’m dangerously desperate to devour. Working alongside him in the food court becomes a daily exercise in extreme self-restraint. Every smile he flashes sends my predatory instincts into overdrive, and the irony of wanting to date the very creature that should be my next snack is not lost on me. In the world of ghouls, falling for a human is the ultimate taboo. As our chemistry grows, the line between romantic obsession and genuine hunger begins to blur. I desperately want to prove that I’m more than my biological impulses, but keep my cravings at bay while trying to win his heart is proving to be the hardest challenge of my afterlife. Can I win over my human boyfriend before I accidentally lose control of my appetite?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

⭐⭐⭐⭐💫 This is a fun MM monster romance novella set in the ’80s. It was originally published in the Creepy Court Monster Mall Anthology but was revamped and released as a standalone. Set in an 80’s mall food court, MMC Elliot is a ghoul working at a restaurant that has a side business “ethically” catering to ghoul diets (it’s people). Human MMC Ricky starts working on the human side of the restaurant, and Elliot is instantly obsessed. I really enjoyed this book. It was full of fun ’80s vibes, and the MCs were delicious together. The story was low stakes and high heat, but it still addressed some meaningful themes. I loved the stolen glances and secret kisses aspects of the story. A great quick read from Mayne, I hope to see more like it in the future. Spice: 5/5 Plot: 4/5 Writing: 4.5/5 My Enjoyment: 4.5/5

Sweet

Lily delivers a sweet story about the 80s and I felt right at home in that mall environment. These two are too sweet, cute and rad.

Grab a snack and enjoy!

Elliot really wants to take a bite out of Ricky, maybe literally. He mostly just wants to kiss him though. 😏 Spoilers ahead! This is a cute and quick read. The chemistry between these two is on fire right away. And Elliot calling Ricky muffin is the cutest thing!! I was very worried how Ricky was gonna take the whole ghoul thing, I didn't want these two sweethearts to fight!Thankfully that doesn't happen. On a serious note: I also appreciated showing how the ideals other people/society put on you can make someone feel like you're disappointing everyone, even when you are just being yourself authentically.

I like it and….

The book was good but the pace of the relationship and the way it ended is why it’s 3 stars for me. The relationship felt like it progressed really quickly and considering both their hangups it felt unbelievable. The ending made me feel like there should have been at least 2 more chapters. We didn’t get a glimpse into parent or coworker perspectives on the relationship and honestly it felt like they both were deciding to hide it from their personal lives which would have been great to expand on. Overall good but felt incomplete. Too many loose ends.
