Love and Family and the battle for it all!
L. Eveland, one of my favorite authors has presented us with the third book in The Ferryman universe. This amazing place filled with godlike men and men thinking they are gods which leads them to raise morally gray characters whose lives are founded in violence. That the men in these books can find each other and love each other is a miracle in itself!
Deathless is Diego and Jasper(Hephaestus) story but also the story of a group of Romani people, Russian folklore and the strong women( mothers and grandmothers) of both these men who are fighting to be human. Jasper's humanity is a fight of beauty and strength immensely strengthened by Diego, and finding the love of his daughter Mila when he wasn't sure it would actually be found intact, and then learning to be a father. Their love scenes grabbed where they could amidst battles and finding enemies were H.O.T., these broken men fighting to be whole.
I loved all these books, this one had an especially lovely HEA in light of the story.
To quote the author " family isn't always blood, love doesn't always look the same, and sometimes the most human thing you can do is protect the people who make you want to live."
This is a Dark Romance that follows a secret society of assassins (Think John Wick world) so check the TWs before heading in! This is also Book 3 in The Ferrymen Series and it ABSOLUTELY needs to be read in order! The books end on a HEA with the duo but the plot is a HFN
I loved Jasper and Diego the minute they popped up in book 1 so I was very excited to get to their book! We pick up sorta right where we left off from book 2 the guys are hiding out from dirt bag Zeus and they have Eight with them the little girl they rescued from the end of book 2. We get her origin story as well as what put Jasper on the run for all this time. After their safety is put in jeopardy the guys go back to Diego's family for sanctuary and even that is challenged. Through all the fights Eight get captured and taken to Zeus and now the guys have to go directly to the place they have been avoiding to get her back, because leaving her just isn't an option.
There is so much going on in this one so to avoid spoilers that's the bare bones info for ya 🤣 I loved the banter between Jasper and Diego and then all the throw backs to each of their grandmother's through the story I laughed out loud in some spots. The underlying heart of the story that sometimes family is what you make it, and not always determined by blood just warmed my heart there was a spot I noticed right away when they referenced Eight as "our girl" instead of just Eight and I did a chest clutch 🥹
We have one final book in this…
Finding family in the chaos
Deathless is the third high-octane, high-spice installment in The Ferrymen series. Following characters Jasper and Diego who appeared in books one and two, Deathless is a story about two damaged men and the family they are trying to forge out of the chaos their lives have become.
Jasper was the youngest director in Pantheon history, raised by Zeus himself and honed into his best weapon, he fled the Pantheon years ago and has been on the run ever since.
Diego is the prodigal son of the Kalderash, a Romani smuggler who has fallen in love with a Russian assassin.
And then there is Eight, the child assassin, raised to kill in a Pantheon training facility and just learning to trust her liberators.
The Pantheon is in chaos. Zeus and his loyalists are cleaning house, targeting everyone involved in the rescue of Eight and the other child assassins from a training base in Alaska. Jasper and Diego need somewhere to run. Family is the place that has to take you when you have nowhere else to go, but just because the Kalderash might accept Diego’s return doesn’t mean that they will shelter his Russian lover or help in the war the two are running from.
I loved this installment of The Ferrymen, a series that just gets better, book by book. I can’t wait for the final chapter! Eveland writes morally gray characters and violence as a love language. This story is raw, brutal, and heart-wrecking. A story about making a family out of what you have and not what is perfect. Buckle in for the…

Then you shouls definitely check this one out. Truthfully, you should check out the whole series. It's very much John wick, if it was queer, and had a lot more intimate scenes.

Absolutely SMOKING hot and beautifully dark
"...I was the opposite of okay. I was holding onto this man like the floor was gone and he was the only solid thing left. ...I was supposed to be the one holding him together. Instead I was falling apart in his lap with my mouth on his pulse while he comforted me. I couldn't even be embarrassed. The relief was so enormous that it had flattened everything else."
THESE TWO OMG. Jasper and Diego finally get their story and it is SO HOT. Their honesty with each other in the face of some really terrible things is the thread that holds their relationship together. No stupid misunderstandings here (well, just one secret that gets out pretty quick), just lots of killing and kissing. I also love that they both feel very true to their backgrounds! Now I can't wait for Book 4...
