Description

What starts as a much-needed vacation for the world’s most powerful mage, Wisteria Shien, and her partner, Clematis, quickly devolves into a nightmare of eldritch proportions. Seeking an escape from the pressures of magic, the pair travels to a remote, anti-magic sanctuary. But in a land where mages are myths, the locals’ hospitality masks a dark, cavernous secret—one that hungers for Wist’s unmatched power. When Wist vanishes and the town is sealed behind impenetrable walls, Clematis finds herself trapped in a perpetual, suffocating autumn. Wist has returned, but she is no longer the woman who sought a quiet getaway. Transformed into an invincible, tyrannical Queen, Wist has halted time, holding the entire town hostage to her whims. She has become the ultimate adversary, ruling with a cold, absolute authority that defies explanation. Yet, Wist has underestimated the one person who knows her best. Clematis doesn't need magic or salvation to challenge an immortal ruler; she possesses a fierce, unwavering devotion that burns even brighter in the face of tyranny. As their dynamic shifts into a volatile battle of wills, both women discover that their conflict is merely a strange, dangerous deepening of their bond. In this horror-tinged, slow-burn romance, the lines between lover and enemy dissolve, proving that some loves are strong enough to break—and reshape—the world.

More Wist and Clem!

As is the case with most of the series, I wouldn’t really call this a “romance” book, but I absolutely love the way that Wist and Clem’s relationship is portrayed.(super light spoiler incoming!) There's a line where Clem muses about how she can’t even tell anymore if Wist is objectively attractive but it’s somehow the most inspiring, romantic thought I’ve read in a novel in recent memory. Seriously, if you liked the previous books (and have enough brain cells not to stop reading after 15% of the book and leave a one star review) then this is a must pick up book. Especially if you have kindle unlimited!

Hop on a coach towards a new adventure!

The adventure continues with still amazing prose, beautiful, spectacular, in depth imagery that Hiyodori describes with Wist and Clem going to a new place of Bittercress. If you enjoyed reading any previous works, this one is a treat, with more world building! I'm a BIG FAN

Eerie village mystery with a touch of eldrich horror is exactly what I like in my breakfast

Clematis and the Queen of the Void is a brilliantly executed eerie village mystery with world-ending stakes, time distortions, and eldritch horror. Hiyodori’s ability to set the tone through prose, descriptions, and world-building shines in this novel. My only complaint is that Wist really got the short end of the stick here, and the poor woman should not have had to go through all that! I also think that Clem and Wist work just that much better when they are forced to interact with each other rather than forced apart.

I've officially become a fan of this author

I previously reviewed the first book. At that time, I came in with low expectations, and the first book pleased me. By this book though, my expectations have risen considerably, and the author has met them again. Clem is one of the best characterized characters I have ever read. She is very beautiful as a character. The plot is really well crafted. And even the author's characterization of Wist has improved. Bravo. I am impressed. And I have officially become a fan of this author. This series never fails to deliver an enjoyable read.
