Description

In the cutthroat landscape of the criminal underworld, power is the only currency that matters. When Elara finds herself ensnared by the city’s most formidable Crime Queen, she is forced into a dangerous game where her life hangs by a thread. What begins as a forced alliance born of desperation soon spirals into an electrifying collision of wills. Elara is determined to hold her ground, but her captor is as intoxicating as she is lethal, pulling her into a seductive web of secrets, betrayal, and high-stakes ambition. As Elara navigates this treacherous new reality, the line between prisoner and partner begins to blur. Their volatile dynamic is fueled by a white-hot tension that threatens to consume them both, turning their power struggle into a reckless, enemies-to-lovers descent. Caught in a world where shadows dictate the rules and trust is a luxury neither can afford, the two must decide if they are enemies destined to destroy one another or the perfect pair to rule the darkness. Packed with intense heat and suspense, this opening installment of the Underworld Duet invites you into a seductive, gritty romance where the cost of disobedience is high, but the price of desire is everything.

Such a captivating Story.

This was a very sad story for the main character, Aurora Verderosa since she was a child. A girl as she developed into a young woman that never knew freedom because of her father that only treated her as a way to pay off his gambling debts. Then being sold to Nero Imperioli as his bride but then taken by Hadria Imperioli for the debt Aurora's father owed her. Aurora is a trapped in an estate she can wonder inside and outside but only at night and never leave. Though the connection between develops into something more over time and Hadria finally realizes that Aurora needs to make a choice to be free and leave Chicago or come back to Hadria's estate to be with by staying at a safe house to decide. I found the ending of this story very sad that Hadria believes that Aurora chose to leave. Though I did not like the ending it did not change my opinion of this or the number of stars given. I would truly recommend this book to everyone that loves a good age gap romance.

Okay

The story was okay but there wasn't enough emotion or maybe no real connection between the two characters. Overall though if you like angst and slow burn stories, give it a go.
