Description

Alaina survived a brush with death that should have ended her career, but the scars on her body are nothing compared to the wreckage left in her heart. As a force to be reckoned with in the high-stakes world of downhill mountain biking, she returns to the circuit with something to prove and a past she cannot outrun. She expects the adrenaline of the course to be her biggest challenge, but she never anticipated the magnetic pull of two people who see exactly who she is beneath the armor. This story explores the beautiful, messy reality of finding yourself while navigating a heart that refuses to choose just one path. It is a raw, psychological look at resilience, trust, and the courage it takes to let others in when you have spent a lifetime standing alone. Set against the breathtaking, dangerous backdrop of elite mountain biking, this romance balances intense physical stakes with deep emotional vulnerability. You will find yourself breathless as the lines between teammates and lovers blur, leading to a conclusion that will leave you desperate for the next chapter. A comeback story that isn't quite as pictured.

Ahhhhhhhhh that cliffhanger is maddening. I absolutely can not wait to see what happens next. Alaina is so strong. She came back from a near death accident with a grudge to settle. Except now she is back and racing against the men like her life depends on it. She is living only for this one season, this one moment, this one chance. Except they are here slipping into the cracks and taking root. Finn number 14 and her brothers best friend whom she has wanted for as long as she can remember. Luc number 69 who has disarmed her with every breath. Mason number 21, the man no one gives a second glance at because one person made an allegation and now he's paying for it. I absolutely love these men. They are all falling for her or rather him because only Finn knows who she really is. Luc isn't afraid to be seen or offer support. He is loud and happy. He goes out of his way to help with things she doesn't even know she needs. Mason is this calm that is unexpected. He sees what she doesn't share and she actually sees him and gives him the benefit of the doubt. Finn is the one who knew her then and is learning who she is now. He doesn't think he can do anything because of who she is and what he thinks of himself. The healing already happening is amazing and I can't wait to see what more there is to learn. Blake Black write amazing contemporary duets with so much heart and healing.

Loved it!

This book had me hooked from the start! I just couldn’t put it down and finished it within a day. It was such a refreshing storyline that just captivated me. The guys and how unique they all were and their connection to Alaina/Allen. The tension and build up was just perfect. And you add in the great supporting characters of Piper and Dane and even Otis. I loved it. But to leave us on a cliffhanger for a month?! Criminal.

The way I was invested in this story...

I have to say I am loving every Blake Black book I can get my hands on and this one was no exception. The author has the magic touch on investing you in the characters and weaving a story that doesn't let you go. She handles pain and brokenness beautifully and as the reader I almost seem to feel it on a visceral level. To say that my heart breaks for Alaina and her brother would be an understatement. To know what really happened and live in pain like that - I honestly can't fault her ultimate plan. But the way I wish and hope that the 3 men in her life give her a reason to go on is desperate. Poor Finn - he has foot in mouth syndrome badly. Let's hope he can fix that. Luc brings her the sunshine she needs. And Payne - he's her kindred spirit. I really hope they can get it together after that cliffhanger, because of course I know have to live counting down the days, hours, minutes till book 2!
