Description

Wilson is a young man who thrives on precision, armed with a rigorous self-improvement plan aimed at making him worthy of a future partner. He expects his transformation to take years, but his timeline shatters when Brandon, a new arrival at their group home, moves into his room. Brandon arrives with his own agenda—a fresh start where he can navigate the dating scene without the heavy baggage of his family’s fractured past. Living in the same small space, their worlds collide in unexpected ways. Wilson is drawn to Brandon’s effortless charisma, while Brandon is magnetically pulled toward his roommate’s intense, soulful gaze and his fierce dedication to social justice. Despite Brandon’s focus on the girls he hopes to meet and Wilson’s internal struggle to shed his defensive layers, they find an undeniable solace in one another. As they navigate the volatile, unpredictable environment of the group home, the two must confront their own deeply held assumptions about sexuality, identity, and the vulnerability required to truly love someone else. Brandon and Wilson at the Catch is a poignant, tender look at two hearts trying to beat in sync while the chaotic reality of their lives threatens to pull them apart.

Loved this!

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience of reading this book. It’s a love story, it’s a coming-of-age novel about gay/bisexual teens, it’s a gut-wrenchingly accurate portrayal of life in the foster care system, and it’s even a mystery novel. And it does it all so well. Brandon and Wilson at the Catch is a very human story that somehow simultaneously brought me back to my own life as a gay teenager, entertained me and educated me about life in the foster care system. I am grateful to have read this novel.

LGBTQ+ Coming of Age Mystery

This was a delightful read with characters and plot twists that kept the pages turning. I knew two twins when in my teens that were sent to an institution for wayward youth. This gave me a glimpse into what their lives may have been like after I lost touch. Can’t wait for the sequel!

Great read!!!!

What a great read! With beautifully written characters and a compelling storyline it is so much more than a coming of age novel. Mr. McMillen has woven a snapshot in time of these two young lives with such compassion it drew me in hook, line and sinker. I hope there is more Wilson and Brandon to come.

A truly original coming of age story

This novel is engagingly told through the dual viewpoints of the two main characters, both of which you are really rooting for. There is a romance in it, but it is about much more than that--specifically, figuring out who you are, who and how to trust, and navigating worlds that weren't built for you.
