While each book in this series is centered around a new couple, the story arc of this series is followed throughout the whole series, gaining more pertinent info and answers to open ended questions left by the previous book. Therefore it is highly, and I mean HIGHLY recommended to read these in order. PLEASE READ THE AUTHORS NOTE at the beginning of the book as she gives a ton of great info/insight to the book itself. 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰: This books follows inmate Felix Darcey, the infamous serial killer who possesses no remorse or regret for his past transgressions… and the doctor who wants noting more then to get inside Darcey’s mind and pick it apart piece by sociopathic piece. This was such a good book and so hot that I did not want to stop reading! However, about three quarters of the way through it got to be a little bit repetitious and a bit unbelievable in my opinion. I don't want to go to a lot of details but about a quarter of this book could have been left out. But there is no doubt that this is an excellent author, easy reading, good sexual energy etc bu it just didn't feel real to me at one point

The Carver is me.” Well, well, well look who's come to play my favorite little Pyscho..... Felix "The Carver" Darcey . I've been dying for his book since reading Distorted and Joyless last year, let's just say it was well worth the wait! I also highly recommend you read those books first because characters intertwine within each book and it may be confusing when reading Brainwashed. "You’re a diamond in the rough. A truly unique example of ordered chaos in the human mind.” Felix has known since he was young that he was different, that he craved things and this book shows us just how dark, gritty and depraved it all was. He was looking for something in his lovers that he never received from his family and it hits deep but you can't help falling for him after all. "My Love is gone. The only person I had in this world… The only person who ever understood me, who saw me. And I’m invisible again." Dr. Lemuel Love was fascinated with the human mind, intrigued with the workings and all because of his traumatic past. He was observant in his job, intense with his interactions and yet never expected the fierceness he would feel over his patient. “You are the most twisted, depraved… perfect f'ing monster I’ve ever known.” Brainwashed is not your average dark, twisted, true crime romance, it's a slow burn…

This book follows inmate Felix Darcey, a serial killer with no remorse, and the doctor eager to analyze him. I’ve waited for Felix’s story since book one, where he's known as the dangerous, prized inmate who stays in solitary. We learn about his background and his transformation into the 'Carver,' making him surprisingly sympathetic. Felix’s complex personality keeps the reader engaged. Dr. Lemuel Love, a top psychiatrist, was brought to AP specifically for Felix to analyze his mind and report to the warden. Though deeply interested, his obsession borders on crossing professional lines. I love Felix—quirky, loyal, and surprisingly kind. His unexpected traits help Lem open up, creating a deep connection. Their dynamic shifts, with Nyla’s spicy antics adding to the mix. The overlapping timelines enrich the series, revealing more about the larger story. I have many theories, questions, and can’t wait to see Lex and Ren’s story next!

Not gonna lie, as much as I love Darcy, this was not my favorite so far. I really struggled getting a grip on Dr. Love’s character and at times he was so hot and cold that it gave me whiplash. And for someone with a PhD he seemed very un-self aware. Felix, of course, was perfect as you’d expect. Let’s face it, we all fell for him in the first book, yeah? That said, the backstory and the way it was revealed was great and Nyla keeps you guessing.
