Description

Chicago is a powder keg in the height of Prohibition, but the real danger isn’t just from the police or rival mobs—it’s the creeping tide of dark magic. Sam Cunningham, a hexmaster forced into the service of gangster Mickey Sullivan, finds his precarious life shattered when a brutal assassin begins eliminating the city’s underground power players. Now, the crosshairs are firmly planted on his back. Alistair Gatti, a cheetah-shifter struggling to protect his family’s speakeasy, is equally desperate. With his business on the verge of ruin and the city’s supernatural underworld descending into chaos, Alistair faces a grim reality: to ensure the survival of his kin, he must align with the very people threatening to tear his world apart. The only key to their salvation is a forbidden, ancient hex salvaged from an Egyptian tomb. As Sam races to master the volatile craft, he discovers that the cost of freedom might be higher than he ever imagined. In a high-stakes war where bullets and spells collide, Sam and Alistair must navigate a treacherous landscape of shifting loyalties. If they fail to unravel the magic before the city runs red, they will be the next casualties of the shadows.

So satisfying!

I do love Jordan L. Hawk's writing style. The complexity of their characters and detail of their world building is astounding. Be it Hexworld or Whybourne & Griffin, the books are fantastic. This book is a fitting addition to the tale of the Pride. I was kept on the edge of my seat throughout. Like my title says, so satisfying! I look forward to future Hexworld titles if they may come. If not, I know that I'll be right there for the next Jordan L Hawk novel anyway.

A great book.

A great story. Like how you show that relationships do run into bumps at times. Hope that you spin another book set in the Hexworld.

Disappointing

I enjoyed the first 2 books. This one never engaged my emotions, nor did I feel much suspense. No chemistry between any of the characters. The plot felt contrived, and the resolution was rushed and felt phoned in. Still 3 stars, based on the writing quality.
