YA Horror with Sapphic Romance?! Yes, please!
This novella is a prequel to "Zombabe" but can be read as a standalone!
"Frankie was a one-woman band."
Even in a smalltown high school you have your cliques and Frankie was not a part of any of them! She preferred being alone because of how fake everyone was and didn't buy into the mask's others wore to "fit" in. But when the threat of summer school looms over Frankie's head she takes the first opportunity she can get to avoid sacrificing her months of freedom!
Even if the help comes in the form of a cheerleader who glows with popularity. The same cheerleader Frankie has a crush on but shouldn't say out loud. . . Only there's a catch for Ivy's help with tutoring, will Frankie be able to hold up her end of the bargain? Maybe getting summer school is worth it after all. . ?
"Bad place. Unnatural." = Bulldeen
This smalltown is surrounded with mystery and paranormal activities. Things not spoken of out loud but behind closed doors and even still there are people who believe it's utter nonsense. Only Frankie and a select few know that there may be some truths behind the stories and when Frankie discovers Ivy's secret things are blown wide open!
I absolutely LOVED Frankie and how she understood who she was, even if she struggled with fully voicing it. Because let's be honest, in high school a lot of us were straight up jerks or worse. Maybe even being the ones who were made fun of because "different" wasn't taken kindly. Frankie has to deal with bullying and an…
Something isn't quite right in the small town of Bulldean, something sinister lurking in the background. And the town itself - not overly accepting. Frankie has that dark look, is a loner at the school, while Ivy is as far from her as you can get - a cheerleader, and popular. But when Ivy approaches Frankie with an offer, who is she to refuse ^^
Cute, fun, a little dark and a little spooky, this story deals with the request that Ivy made, setting the scene for the events of Zombabe (and crossing over a little), but more so, looks at the relationship that starts to develop between the two of them. It's neither easy nor smooth, and yet, through it all, perhaps there is the potential for something more.
And as to Babylove itself - yeah, that was a bit of a surprise.
It's not a long read, but it is very enjoyable slow burn romance, and I am very keen to see what happens to the two of them and how their relationship continues to develop in the remaining two books of the trilogy.
the book was okay but was really slow pacing book
the book was okay but i couldn't get into it. a lot of stuff was going on, and it was getting so confusing at few parts of the book, the characters were kind of good. like i say this book wasn't meant for me. this book was kinda a slow-paced kind of reading

4.5 stars
A very cute novella about two teenage girls dealing with high school, family drama and necromancy. What surprised me a little was that I enjoyed all of those elements equally. Whether Frankie and Ivy were dealing with a zombie cat or a lousy boyfriend, I was completely invested in the moment.
Very much looking forward to the sequel.

short but complete and kept me interested throughout
I really enjoyed this quick novella. The writing was clean and easy to follow. The story was short but complete and kept me interested throughout. I find that some short stories and novellas don't always leave me feeling satisfied but this one did a great job. It leaves room for the next in the series but ends well enough that I don't feel unsettled. I like the spooky concept and the MC pairing. They are fun and quirky and genuine. An excerpt of the next in the series was included at the end and it was good but revealed something that made me unhappy with the author's choice. I will process and then probably read the rest anyway. I recommend this book.
