Description

When a Fifth Avenue matriarch offers a $300 million inheritance to the first granddaughter who secures both a husband and a pregnancy, the gloves come off. The race pits two polar opposites against each other: Madison, a ruthless socialite with four divorces under her belt and a taste for luxury, and Rayne, a grounded youth center director fighting to save her community hub. Madison has the wardrobe and the venom to win, but she didn’t count on Rayne’s secret weapon. With the help of Lars, a razor-sharp, high-fashion salon owner, Rayne undergoes a stunning metamorphosis. No longer the dowdy wallflower, the new and improved Rayne enters the dating scene with a vengeance, ready to outmaneuver her sister at every turn. What begins as a high-stakes family competition quickly spirals into a dark, campy melodrama filled with blackmail, extortion, and the chilling threat of murder. As the sisters trade blows to reach the altar first, they discover that winning the fortune might cost them everything else. It is a witty, fast-paced battle of wits where the prize is absolute, the stakes are lethal, and only one sister gets a wedding to die for.

Worth the time to read

The plot seems contrived until you start reading the book and all the obstacles thrown in the way of the protagonist. I can visualize sequels to this story, and the characters are easily relatable. The author has great depth in classic literature and the right quote from famous thinkers and writers fit in at the right times. Well worth the time to read and savor the sweetness in the story.

I Loved This Book!

I loved Altarcation! A totally entertaining book, with a great plot – including some really fun twists. The primary characters (two sisters) are perfectly drawn, representing a contrast between altruism and avarice. When a third well-meaning character proposes a contest of sorts, the way the sisters respond to the situation flawlessly captures their natural instincts, leading to a surprising (and thoroughly delightful) conclusion. Along the way we meet a number of other compelling characters who lend color and nuance, and help to move the story forward. Definitely a 5-Star read!

A wonderful captivating story

Altercation” is the kind of story that pulls you in not just with its tension, but with its heart. The characters feel lived‑in and human, carrying emotions that echo long after you close the book. Every conflict reveals something tender beneath the surface, giving the story a surprising warmth amid the drama. It’s fast‑moving, engaging, and quietly meaningful — the sort of read that stays with you because it understands people as much as it understands plot.

Best book ever

Loved this book so much/the humor is there, for sure/I mean, it’s laugh-out-loud funny, with great banter, like that show Will & Grace/but there are also the heart-tugging moments, including a really moving subplot about how one of the main characters helps disadvantaged girls in New York City/finally, the descriptions of both the tough and the glam parts of New York City are so spot-on, I thought I was there/run, don’t walk, to buy this book/
