Description

Liam has spent his life operating in the shadows, fueled by a dark crusade to punish those who bring suffering to the world. He has always kept his lethal extracurricular activities strictly separated from his personal life, but love has a way of complicating the most meticulous plans. Gabriel is the sunshine to Liam’s darkness—a grounding force who has unexpectedly moved in, bringing his cat and a sense of domestic stability that Liam never thought he deserved. However, their budding romance is forced into the firing line when a gruesome discovery at the local zoo reveals a string of cold cases spanning years. As the couple hunts for a prolific serial killer, they find themselves caught in a dangerous game against an adversary who is just as comfortable working in the dark as they are. As the investigation spirals, the boundary between justice and vengeance begins to dissolve. Liam and Gabriel must grapple with a harrowing choice: follow the letter of the law or rely on Liam’s lethal instincts. With their lives—and their sanity—on the line, they quickly realize that while a predator may be hunting them, they have every intention of being the ones to finish the fight.

Love these guys and this series

Ok, so it’s official. I have fallen in love with Liam. Yup. I did not expect it, but it happened. Now, he sits right up there with Gabriel in my high regard. I don’t know what that says about me, but, hey, the author is very persuasive. A Present Mistake is an excellent continuation of this series. I enjoyed seeing all the characters I’ve come to expect. They keep these scenes moving forward with humor and no small sense of exasperation. Gabriel and Liam are still a good couple, even when they are questioning their place in each other’s lives. I love their dynamic and I hope they keep coming back for more. It tickled me to see that Jesse played a bigger role in this book. It shocked and distressed me when I found out what brought him into a main character role, though. I enjoyed this storyline. It allowed several of the characters to shine. It took the reveal to show me who the bad guy was, and boy, was I surprised. I was on the edge of my seat throughout. This series keeps getting better and better. I look forward to more from this author.

Excellent Murder/Mystery Romance with Humour

Serial manipulator vs serial killer makes for an interesting overarching storyline. Stronger murder/mystery than book #2. Liam's getting some... not-enemies in his coworker cohort - friends is not a word he likes. I'm more of a dog person but Gabriel and Liam's kitties, Lucy Fur (sticking with Liam's name for Lucille Pawl) and Butter, were little scene stealers. Cousin Tom the bully. Pfft, Snort. Loved it. Liam, you rule. Gabriel's mother is awesome, as is his sister. I really like his random and loving family. There's more about secondary characters, like Matthew and Jesse, who I am pretty sure are working their way toward a book. However, I'm only interested in Liam and Gabriel. I like the secondary characters but, personally, I don't want them as MCs. It's Liam and Gabriel I'm here for. Love. Them. I'm off to listen to the audiobook, it's out now, because I heard Greg Boudreaux voicing Liam and Gabriel in my head the entire time I read the book.

Cats and Crime!

Cats, an MC who feels emotions less and an interesting perp, what more could I want. Second Alice Winters book after quite a while and I loved it. The medical examiner was in trouble, he is friend to Gabe and Liam(who denys it) so they help. This criminal is a worthy adversary and brings out the best? worst? in Liam and so begins a hunt involving the whole department. I loved how the differences between Gabe and Liam were pointed out, cleverly mostly by Liam. And Liam just wanting to give Gabe every material thing when he only wants Liam is adorable. It got emotional in the last few episodes and that made it better. I will read the next book when it comes out.

The twists though

This installment of this series was beautifully executed. I was even more on the edge of my seat. The twists and turns were so freaking awesome. Like there was not really one point that was expected. I was both shocked and wow'd. I love Alice Winters books and this book proves just how talented a writer they are. I recommend that you start with the first book in this series 'A Simple Mistake'. Then continue with the next 2 installments. You'll never regret buying this entire series.

Better than Die Hard

This book is the Christmas movie. The people deserve. Liam is just such a fascinating, funny, weird genius of a man. The payoff of a number of things from the previous books coming together was really great. Every time a new one comes out I hope. Alice Winters will keep writing. I like to smile and laugh and cry a little and solve a mystery.
